Top Spring Trends to Try in 2022

Top Spring Trends to Try in 2022

October 11, 20246 min read

Every season there’s a big list of the top trends designers showcase down the runway. For a stylist or fashion-loving individual, like myself, the art of it all is mesmerizing. But when you are on the outside of the fashion realm, deciding what’s hot and not can seem complicated. Sometimes the clothing looks so silly and out of place that you can’t even imagine seeing someone walking down the sidewalk in the latest looks.

I’m here to break it down for you. I’m sharing how you can translate some of the hottest trends into real life.

The important thing to keep in mind is don’t be afraid to try something new. It’s ok if something looks or feels a little different, especially if you haven’t shopped in awhile. Exploring new styles, colors or stores is definitely not bad, it means you are making a change and stepping out of what you know. It's like when you start your new workout or meal plans and it feels strange at first. But then you settle in and wonder, what else can I try differently? New is exciting and it’ll keep you feeling relevant to your life and where you are today.

So go ahead, look through the top trends below and pick two options you are willing to try to refresh your wardrobe. To get tips on how to decide whether or not to keep the item when you get it in the mail, check out my blog Should You Buy that Piece?

Remember, you can’t judge everything just by looking at it. If it somehow draws you in and you're curious about the style, order it! (Check the return status too to make sure you can get store credit or your money back). Until you try that new trend on, you can’t make a 100% judgment on whether or not it works for you.

WIDE LEG PANTS

I'm putting this here at the top because I’d have to say, this is one of my favorite trends. It looks so feminine and elegant, it’s a great segue away from the skinny pant. There’s room to breathe and you don’t feel restricted.

If your style is classic, you like getting dressed up for work or want to try an evening option other than a dress. This should be on your list.

BIG JACKETS

Many of my clients prefer a well tailored to the body, cinch in the waist kind of jacket but the past two years, clothing is getting loose. The big jacket look is more relaxed, adds a power suit kind of feel with the edgier shoulders and works well for daytime with a pair of jeans or nighttime with a short dress. Even if you’re petite, like myself, you can pull this off. I recently purchased an oversized jacket that hits my mid thigh and I feel so professional and polished in that piece. The way you style the jacket makes a huge difference.

If your style is casual or you work in an environment where you like to look more professional, a jacket is key. You can dress it down with a tee or dress it up with long pants.

INTERESTING HEELS

Shoe styles have drastically changed the past few years. One big difference you’ll see as you shop for shoes is all the crazy heels! Doesn’t matter if it’s a kitten heel or a stiletto height heel. There’s slanted heels, ones with little sculptures or geometric shapes, and color blocking.

This style works well for creative individuals who enjoy something new, that like unique pieces and have a Creative Soul Style (check out my Style Personality Quiz)

SEXY DETAILS

It’s so interesting that the past few months, many clients have been requesting sexier pieces that have cuts or show off their shoulders, their chest. It’s like the pandemic had people want to step out of their shell and they are ready to get out there again. Luckily designers have caught on and you’ll find sheer sleeves, low cut shirts, shoulder cut outs and more.

This style works well for any woman that wants to feel more empowered by her body and isn’t afraid to do it. Sexy details can be worn for daytime with simple slits in a tee or for evening with a low cut bodysuit.

PLATFORMS OF ALL KINDS

These are wonderful for all the petite ladies out there who love the extra height. Platforms don’t necessarily mean heels, platforms can come in a flat sandal, a bootie or …….. Clogs. Yes, I had to add the photo just for fun. If you can’t wear heels (like myself and many of my clients) but you love a little extra elevation, there are options for you this upcoming season.

This style works well for casual, work, or evening. It just depends on the shoe style you choose and how dramatic the platform is.

ONE COLOR HEAD TO TOE

For my ladies that love a classic, easy to put together look, the one color head to toe is a MUST for you. Pick any color. Can be a bright cherry red or a beige. The "matchy matchy" look is back full on. You can wear a matching sweater and wide leg pants or a full on suit. Of course you can break up the two items to pair with other things in your wardrobe but when you want that power outfit, the one color head to toe the look. FYI if you love late night tv, as you watch the celebrities come on for interviews, many of their stylists are putting them in this look. Jennifer Lopez, Julie Bowen, Kristen Bell, and more.

This trend is for you if you work in a business professional field or can be dressed down for a level up in your business casual job. This is also a great option for dressing up for a night out.

HALOGEN | RIB SWEATER // NORDSTROM

AKRIS PUNTO | FRED CROP CRÊPE PANTS // NORDSTROM

THE COLBY PANT | ORIGAMITECH // M.M. Laufeur

SCULPTED ITALIAN WOOL BLAZER // BANANA REPUBLIC

HIGH-RISE FLARE SCULPTWEAVE PANT // BANANA REPUBLIC

DRAMATIC DRAPING

The elegance from soft silk fabrics and how they drape are eye-catching. And side-note, as beautiful as they are, it’s also flattering on the body. The fabric is so soft it hits all the right places. If you watched ‘And Just Like that’ Sarah Jessica Parker wears a beautiful one shoulder draped dress by Norma Kamali that sold out in minutes. You can find dramatic draping in dresses, skirts, and tops.

This trend works for you if you like detailing and well made pieces. You can wear this to work or a night out.
