Finding vs. Creating Your Style

Finding vs. Creating Your Style

October 11, 20245 min read

It cracks me up when people claim they have no style. Seriously, everyone has a style! It's all about what you're rockin' right now, how you're flaunting yourself, and where you're splurging your hard-earned cash. Your style is the ultimate reflection of your personality, values, job, and passions. It's like a window into your soul. But hey, if you're itching to change things up, that's where the real fun begins. It's not about finding your style like it's some elusive unicorn. Nope, it's all about creating your style! Look deep inside yourself and visualize how you want the world to see you, how you want to feel when you get dressed, and bam! You've got the power to transform your look.

What it means to 'create your style'

If you believe you haven't found your style yet, it means you're outgrowing your fashion choices. Maybe your stuff doesn't fit right, the prints make you cringe, or perhaps your whole closet is just a mess. Don't stress, but it's time for an upgrade.

Forget about this idea of "finding" your style. It sounds so... unsure of yourself, right? You're a boss, and you know what you want. As a stylist, I help people like you define their look. With just one peek at your wardrobe, I can see your past journey, where you're at right now, and where you want to go. We'll level up your current style to match your fierce ambitions.

I practice what I preach. I live and breathe this concept of creating and owning my style. None of that wishy-washy search for who I am nonsense. Every single day, I decide and craft the image I want to project in my business, as a mom, and as a sister. It's all about taking charge and embracing the power to shape my own destiny. Trust me, it's a game-changer!

If you're currently confused, not knowing what you want or who you want to be, don't worry, it's all good. Acknowledging that you're not where you want to be is a solid starting point. It's like playing a round of elimination, ruling out everything that doesn't mesh with your dreams. So, that's progress, my friend!

The formula to creating your style

Let's say you're stuck in this never-ending cycle of snooze fest mode. You know, hitting that snooze button a million times and stumbling through the day with zero motivation. Yeah, that's not your jam anymore. You wanna be that fierce go-getter who wakes up early, slays the to-do list, and even hits the gym. Well, guess what? You have the power to make it happen! Just take those new actions and craft the life you truly desire. Don't worry, we're not talking about making some grandiose changes, even small tweaks to your habits and style can make a huge difference.

If you're wearing the same baggy leggings and sloppy tee combo every single day, I get it. Working from home has got you in a fashion rut. This look might be practical, but it's definitely not giving you that "I look fabulous" feeling anymore. You miss feeling put together and enjoying the fun side of fashion, right?

It's time to kick things up a notch. This isn’t about finding your style through trial and error in the shopping world. Nope, it's all about creating your style with intention. You gotta declare, "I wanna look put together, comfy, and fun in my everyday life!" And when you hit those stores, you're gonna be laser-focused on pieces that match your statement. No more aimless browsing! You're gonna show up, strut your stuff, and make those purchases with purpose.

Let me break this down for you in a simple formula:

1. Spot the fashion fails.

It's not about a complete transformation but realizing that your clothes aren’t cutting it anymore. They need a bit of pizzazz!

2. Make a declaration of how you want to feel.

Set your intentions on how you want to feel. This gives you focus when you're trying on clothes and deciding what to wear. It's like your fashion compass pointing you in the right direction. I do this in life too. I ask myself, "Would Tannya wake up early and write her book or dive into boring emails?" It puts everything into perspective and helps you bring out your best self.

3. Embrace curiosity and try experimenting.

Now that you've revived your fashion mindset, it's time to hit the shops. Pull out pieces that align with your style statement. If you're going for powerful and fun, grab those bold blazers with sharp lines and mix in some funky prints. If you're aiming for casual and put-together, look for jeans with a fresh cut and tees with fun details like flutter sleeves or cinched waists. Break free from your norm and let your creativity shine.
