The modern day shoe problem, where do you store all your shoes?! When you line them all up, the boots, the heels, the flats, and the special occasion heels, it all seems to need its' very own spot. Finding where to place them in your home really depends on your lifestyle, closet space, and budget. I think we can all agree, walking into a room with an ugly shoe pile up is definitely not the right way to care for your purchases or your sanity. Below are ideas on how to use your space efficiently.

Everyone has a cubby! Keep the shoes together instead of piled in a box and you’ll always be able to find them when you are on the run. What I really like about this is the shoe rack is also a bench to sit down comfortably and put them on. It makes it convenient for families that prefer a ‘no shoes in the house policy’. You can’t forget a little bit of color and decor! Plants, succulents, flowers always make a living space feel more welcome, what a creative idea.

Shelves are a great way to get all your shoes in order. You can find these at Home Depot or Lowes. If that seems too big of a task, you can also purchase a white bookshelf to place in a closet or small room. Before you make any purchase make sure to measure the height of those heels! I’ve personally purchased shelves that only held my flats and sneakers because I didn’t even think about whether or not they’d fit my high heels. If it’s advertised as a shoe shelf, I assumed it would hold all kinds of shoes, including heels, but that’s not the case. Here they added a curtain to hide the shoes in an elegant, boutique-like way.

I’m not a fan of each pair of shoes in an individual plastic box UNLESS the design looks decorative and the shoes are easy to access. I couldn’t tell from far away that these were even plastic containers but they are! It looks so organized and clean, it's a practical approach to organizing. A huge advantage of this option is that you can buy, stack and put together as many as you need. You don’t have to have a big space to make it work and it can be customized to exactly how many shoes you own.

A SHOE CABINET

If there is just not enough room in your closet, bring the shoes out of the dark into the light. Find a beautiful cabinet that matches your decor and fits your shoes. This is a great way to make the most of a smaller space yet still stay stylish and organized. It's a great way to also display your special, designer, statement pieces on top and go down and put the most used everyday shoes at the very bottom because that's where people will least look.
