It’s ok if things seem touch and go—we’re all wrestling with uncertainty right now. That big chunk in your closet you’re not wearing anymore needs to be put aside, and the new outfits that you’re gravitating toward need to be easily accessible.

As you make your home a place that inspires you, feels comfortable, and brings you aesthetic joy, take your closet into account, too. Set your wardrobe up for your day, make it easier to find outfits, and start your morning with a routine, even if that means matching loungewear. (Yes—that’s a thing, now!)

Check out these fun, easy ways to make your closet a place you love to be.

ORGANIZING TIP 1: MOVE ITEMS YOU AREN'T WEARING RIGHT NOW

When you have the right organizing tips to personalize your closet, setting your wardrobe up to work for you may be easier than you think. As you’ve spent more time at home, have you noticed your style starting to shift? Changing your home to accommodate your lifestyle is important! As life changes, so does your style. (Yes—that’s a thing, now!) Check out these fun, easy ways to make your closet a place you love to be. ORGANIZING TIP 1: MOVE ITEMS YOU AREN'T WEARING RIGHT NOW LARK AND LINEN I wouldn’t let go of items you once loved but aren’t wearing right now. Instead, move them to the right side of your closet. These items might include dry clean only pieces, work dresses, and anything else that isn’t on your go-to radar at the moment. The truth is, although we are getting dressed, we are also learning more towards comfort in our “stay home styles.” On the left side of your closet, keep all your new go-to pieces hanging. Make them easier to access. ORGANIZING TIP 2: HANG UP YOUR CASUAL WEAR LAIN AND LOU Since loungewear is the new norm, bring those pieces to the forefront. Instead of hiding them folded up in drawers, hang those items up so you can see them easily. However, limit these to only your best feel-good items. Leave the oversized band tee for cleaning duty. You don’t want to hang any items that make you feel less than or dampen your productivity. Even though you're working from home and only showing up for video calls, make sure the loungewear you’re wearing fits well, matches, and makes you feel good. As you hang up your items, it's also a good time to dump the old ratty pieces to clear the clutter. ORGANIZING TIP 3: DECORATE YOUR CLOSET MONICA WANTS IT Make your space feel special! Make it a place you love to visit and find pieces that will prepare you for the day. Adding decor makes your closet more personal. Trying hanging photos, small mirrors, wallpaper, jewelry trays, and other beautiful, personalized objects. In the photo above, imagine what it would look like if the shelves had folded jeans, straw baskets, or a pile of clothes randomly thrown in. It wouldn't be a reflection of that person's style or self. This is one of my absolute favorite organizing tips to personalize your closet. ORGANIZING TIP 4: USE MATCHING HANGERS ETSY This is a pet peeve of mine. When I see a closet with all the different hangers together, it doesn’t make sense. It doesn't make a closet feel cohesive. Take care of your clothing. Whether you’re investing in nice pieces or not, you want your items to last. There are many color options and pricing options available. Amazon has felt black hangers if your closet is more jam-packed, and IKEA has wooden options if you have more space. Either one will do the job. ORGANIZING TIP 5: BRING OUT YOUR JEWELRY POTTERY BARN If you’ve had all your jewelry tangled up, hiding from daylight in boxes and drawers, it’s time to take it all out. Find the items you forgot about that you once loved or wore often. Jewelry is SUCH an easy way to feel put-together and bring some fun to your solids, tees, and casual wear. Even those sparkly studs can make a comeback to your personal style. You don’t need all your jewelry hanging up or out of the drawers if you have too much. Just pull out the items you want to wear more often. If it’s easy to access and in front of you, chances are, you’ll put them on. Rotate them monthly or seasonally to include the pieces that tend to get hidden.
