Stepping Into Your Next Level Style
If you’ve been shopping, adding new pieces to your wardrobe, and still feeling like your style isn’t quite clicking, this is for you.
I see this all the time with women who are ambitious, evolving, traveling more, stepping into bigger rooms, and becoming newer versions of themselves. They know the vision. They can see the woman they want to be. They buy a few pieces here and there trying to get closer… but somehow it still doesn’t fully come together.
And that can feel incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re doing “all the right things.”
Here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear: Your next level of style doesn’t come from shopping more. It comes from pausing long enough to get clear.
That pause? It’s often the hardest part.
Why Your Style Feels Stuck (Even When You’re Trying)
When you’re inside your own routines, your own closet, and your own shopping habits, it’s almost impossible to see what’s missing or what’s holding you back.
So you keep looping.
Buying similar pieces
Reaching for what feels “safe”
Wondering why everything still looks the same
That moment when something almost works, but doesn’t quite land, is usually right before a big style shift.
And that’s where intentional style work begins.
At The Closet Edit, this is exactly why we don’t start with a questionnaire. We start with you. Your closet. Your personality. Your life right now and where you’re going next.
Because you don’t go from step one to step ten overnight. You move one or two steps at a time and those steps compound.
Here are the three shifts we use (and that I use myself) to break out of style stagnation and step into the next level.
Step One: Notice the Silhouette You Always Buy
This is where awareness begins.
Go into your closet and ask yourself:
What silhouette do I keep reaching for?
What shape do I keep buying on repeat?
Is it the same blazer cut? The same dress style? The same blouse?
There’s nothing wrong with having a go-to. Those pieces feel easy, reliable, and confident, especially when you’re busy and need to get out the door.
But here’s the hard truth: You cannot expand your style by buying five more versions of the same thing.
When you do, your closet starts to feel repetitive because… it is.
Growth doesn’t require judgment; it requires noticing. The next time you shop, simply try one silhouette that’s slightly different. Not a huge leap. Just different enough to stretch you.
That’s how momentum starts.
Step Two: Add One True Statement Piece
If you want to elevate your look, you need something that stands out.
A statement piece isn’t about being loud or dramatic. It’s about intention.
It’s the piece that:
Pulls your outfit together
Starts conversations
Makes you feel more confident walking into a room
Helps people remember you
And no, it does not mean buying something you’ll only wear once.
The best statement pieces are ones you integrate again and again. Some are investments. Some aren’t. What matters is how they make you feel and how they move your style forward.
Even as a stylist, I stretch my style every season. I recently invested in a vintage jacket that instantly felt like the piece — bold shoulders, stripes, gold buttons. It was a stretch. I asked my team for feedback. I trusted the outside perspective.
And it became one of the most loved pieces I own.
That’s what statement pieces do. They expand you.
If your style is more classic or neutral, your statement doesn’t have to be dramatic. It could be:
A jacket with unexpected details
A looser, cooler leather jacket
A piece of jewelry you grow into
Think of it as three steps above what you normally choose — aspirational, but still wearable.
Every statement piece creates momentum.
Step Three: Remove Anything That Makes You Feel “Less Than”
This step brings instant relief.
Go back into your closet and remove anything that:
Makes you feel frumpy
Feels like a past version of you
Disconnects you from how you want to show up now
Doesn’t align with your current goals or lifestyle
Something can fit your body and still not fit you anymore.
As you make space for new pieces, you have to release old versions. Otherwise, your closet stays crowded with comfort… and comfort can quietly hold you back.
There’s no guilt here. This isn’t about money wasted. It’s about creating space for who you’re becoming.
When your closet is filled with pieces that feel good, everything starts to work together, even unexpected combinations. A leather jacket with lace. Jeans with a blouse. Opposites that somehow just work.
That’s when style becomes effortless.
