Feeling Safe and Supported at Every Stage of Your Pregnancy

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it also takes a lot of behind the scenes work to feel safe and supported throughout the journey of motherhood. Finding the right support before, during, and after pregnancy is crucial. It was such a blessing to have a conversation with the boob boss, aka Rue Khosa, founder of The Perfect Push. She’s all about boobs, bumps, and babies—and trust me when I say that you instantly feel at ease with her. No matter how crazy the question may sound in your head, she’ll not only provide an answer, but also ensure you feel comfortable and safe. Rue is a pioneer in Seattle who advocates cultural change for all steps in a mother’s journey, including healthcare, the treatment of women, and the role new mother’s play in the workforce. After a ten-year career as a medical practitioner, she changed paths to create a safe space where women can truly feel cared for while having a positive, professionally supported childbirth experience. In this episode, we talk about how to deal with mom guilt, when to find emotional support during your pregnancy, and why there’s been a huge shift towards natural birth and breastfeeding.

It’s such a blessing to be around a person like Rue. Her energy is truly contagious, and it makes you ask yourself what more you can do to answer your heart’s calling. I had a lot of reflecting to catch up on after this interview.

MY THREE BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS:

  1. Mom guilt will continue to be a work in progress, but you need to remember that it’s the quality of time with your children, not the quantity.

  2. Make sure you have supportive people around you during childbirth. You’ll need someone to hold you and believe in you when you feel like you can’t go on any longer. Your body was made to go through this process.

  3. Set boundaries with your partner after the baby is born. Whatever you accept and allow, for better or for worse, will continue unless you change it.
